TEXT MESSAGES:
Please be aware that MCAS Beaufort Federal Credit Union will never contact a member by text message, to notify them about important information regarding their account, such as an ATM or Debit Card being de-activated.
Under no circumstance should a member respond to any text message claiming to be from MCAS Beaufort Federal Credit Union. These messages are fraudulent, and are attempts by criminals to steal a member's information.
Delete the text message immediately.
Protect your information and your money - do not respond to text messages claiming to be from MCAS Beaufort Federal Credit Union!
COUNTERFEIT CHECKS:
Members should not deposit cashier's checks, money orders, or other types of checks that appear to be from MCAS Beaufort Federal Credit Union, and claim to be payment in advance for being a secret shopper or a prize winner. These checks are fraudulent and have no value.
The information attached to the check will say you are a prize winner, or have been selected to earn extra cash as a 'secret shopper'. The letter will direct you to deposit the check, and wire a portion of it to a third party, usually be Western Union.
Keep in mind that if you deposit the check and follow the instructions that are included with it, then you will be responsible for paying all the funds back to the credit union.
Remember, the check is not real, and has no cash value.
To make sure you do not become a victim of a counterfeit check, please take the following steps:
- Notify the credit union that you have received the check, and have them verify the check number, to determine if it is a valid check or if it is counterfeit. You can do this by calling Member Service at 843-846-2266.
- If the check is counterfeit, notify your local law enforcement that you have received a counterfeit check, and that you have contacted the credit union to verify it is fraudulent.
- Send a copy of all documentation, with a note explaining the situation, to the credit union at: MCAS Beaufort Federal Credit Union, ATTN: Member Service, P.O. Drawer 1227, Beaufort, SC 29901.
